Steve ---------- Some info about MouldWorks: - Highly respected PhD Mycologist with 38 years in the field performs the analysis of the data for every report as well as signs each report.
- Perform species identification for viable air samples to determine active mold profile indoors versus outdoors, by sample site. Spore traps used as supplemental data to viable air samples - but not necessary.
- Unique approach to tape lift samples: microscopic analysis, species analysis from culture, and archive every tape lift. Swabs are seen as significantly inferior to tape lifts - most of the site information is lost in a swab versus tape lift.
- Bulk samples also receive microscopic and species analysis.
- Use species analysis to perform forensic analysis of sites: how long has mold been present, how active, and what are the health risks.
Compare spore traps with viable air samplesIf you are convinced that spore traps are the way to go, but are interested in comparing the results from spore traps with viable air samples taken in the same place. All spore traps and viable air samples received will be charged at the flat rate of $25 per sample. Take viable air samples at 28 L per minute for one minute. Spore traps at 15 L per minute for 5 minutes. Please call with any questions. MouldWorks culturable tape lifts included in this offer (we can send you tape lifts at no charge) for same price of $25.

AIHA publication cites scientific evidence of serious concerns about spore trap accuracyMouldWorks encourages everyone to read this publication for themselves to reach their own conclusions: "Field Guide for the Determination of Biological contaminants in Environmental Samples" 2nd edition. 2005 Edited by Ling-Ling Hung, Ph.D., J. David Miller, Ph.D., H. Kenneth Dillon, Ph.D., CIH. Published by American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA). 284 pp. In addition to raising serious questions about spore trap accuracy in terms of not capturing small spores and under-counting all spores with less than 1000 magnification and 2-3 hours of analysis per spore trap, there is much additional information that all mold professionals should make sure they are exposed to. AIHA publication cites scientific evidence of serious concerns about spore trap accuracySpore traps have an unpredictable bias against small smooth round spores (Pen/Asp) sticking to the surface. In addition, since "Pen/Asp like" is all that can be said about these spores, what conclusions would you reach if the the counts between indoor and outdoor are the same with spore traps? "No problem" probably. With viable air sampling, comparable number of spores between indoors and outdoors doesn't mean the same mix of species. And, with different mix of species, very different conclusion can be reached. Viable air sampling proves highly accurate and reliableMouldWorks has now experienced thousands of mold assessment examples in which viable air samples are used. The profile of species obtained from this type of sampling has shown itself to be the critical information for accurately assessing the presence or absence of mold infestation. If the profile of species is significantly different from the outside there is an interior infestation. While the numerical counts are helpful, given how variable they can be it is even more important that the profile of species is minimally variable. MouldWorks is now AIHA accreditedMouldWorks laboratory is now AIHA accredited under their Environmental Microbiology Laboratory Accreditation Program (EMLAP) for fungal cultures. This coveted designation was achieved after passing rigorous tests through AIHA's proficiency testing program, EMPAT and an on site visit. The on site inspector was not only very impressed with the level of detail and forensic analysis in our reports, but was very impressed with the fact that we archive every tape lift we receive, that we culture from our tape lifts, and that we have the largest pure species collection of any lab he has ever visited on behalf of AIHA.
What is different about us?What is different about us? All work is overseen and certified by our Chief Scientist, a PhD in Mycology with 36 years experience.
How does this experience make a difference? We identify virtually all molds to the species level, which is crucial for the proper assesment of a mold. We perform a forensic analysis of each sample, which means we determine the history and activity of mold at the site. Our Reports Are Second to None: Our reports are completely understandable and informative and presented to the customer in a format that clearly explains what we have found, which is backed up by research literature, all in lay terms. We deliver our reports to mold and home inspectors through our online reporting site: MyMouldWorks. Once a report has been prepared you receive an email with a link to the report. Each report contains highly detailed analysis of each sample along with links to in-depth descriptions of the molds found. Our Customers Come First: We provide telephone and email follow up for every report to make sure the report is thoroughly understood by the home and mold inspector.
